Requirements


x509 Credential

In order to use the grid software you need a x509 personal certificate, and a certificate is also needed for the host running the RB, globus-gridftp, globus-gatekeeper, LFC services. To obtain such a certificates you have to ask to a CA trusted by the GRID you are join. The host credential must be used only for the services and not for the WN, UI, BDII.

Date and time

The system time must be exact! The ntp-server try at boot to set the system date from the server pool.ntp.org. If the server for some reason is not available stop the ntp server: /etc/init.d/ntp-server stop and run manually the "ntpdate" command with your preferred timehost. To syncronize the time on grid you can use the command:

ntpdate -u ntpserver
e.g. ntpdate -u pool.ntp.org

DNS Name

The grid nodes MUST have a fully qualified hostname registered in DNS which must provide direct and inverse name resolution.

Hardware

EGRID Live SN is based on Live CD Knoppix, and we show its system requirements:

  • Intel compatible CPU (i486 o better);
  • 128Mb RAM (If you use the sotware in text mode 20MB RAM are sufficient);
  • bootable CD-ROM/DVD drive (IDE/ATAPI, Firewire, USB o SCSI);
  • SVGA compatible graphic adapter;
  • a serial standard mouse (PS/2 or USB IMPS/2-compatibile);
  • a network adapter Linux compliant
